How to Stop YouTube Emails

YouTube runs on your Google Account, so its email settings overlap with Google's. The controls sit in a few layers:

• YouTube's own notification settings — the Email notifications section that governs subscription, recommendation, and activity emails.
• The per-channel bell — controls in-app and push alerts for one channel's uploads, and has nothing to do with email.
• Promotional / product email — YouTube and Google marketing, often best killed with the unsubscribe link in the message.

Confusing the bell with email is the number-one reason people can't make YouTube emails stop.

Bells, YouTube settings, and Google settings

The subscription bell you tap on a channel decides whether that channel's new uploads generate a push or in-app notification. It is not an email switch — turning bells off or on changes nothing about your inbox. Email is handled entirely by the Email notifications block in YouTube's own settings, which covers subscription activity, recommendations, comments and replies, and channel updates. Separately, some promotional and product announcement emails are governed by Google account-level marketing preferences, which is why an occasional promo can survive after you've cleared YouTube's settings. Handle all three and the emails stop.

Turn off YouTube email notifications

1. Open YouTube settings

   Sign in at youtube.com, click your profile picture in the top-right, and choose Settings. In the app, tap your profile picture, then Settings.

2. Go to Notifications

   Select Notifications from the settings menu. Scroll to the Email notifications section (distinct from the desktop and push sections above it).

3. Switch off email notifications

   Turn off the Send me occasional emails / Email notifications master toggle to stop subscription, recommendation, and activity emails at once. If you'd rather keep some, turn off only the individual rows you don't want.

4. Confirm across devices

   These preferences are tied to your Google Account and usually apply everywhere, but if you use the app heavily, open its notification settings too and confirm the email switches are off.

Stopping promotional and product email

YouTube also sends marketing and product-announcement emails — new features, YouTube Premium offers, and "what to watch" promos. The quickest way to stop one is the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of the message, which removes that mailing without any settings dive. Because these are tied to Google's account-wide marketing preferences, you can also review them in your Google Account under Data & privacy or Manage your data & privacy, where Google keeps its communication and personalization controls. Look for the ad-personalization and email-preference options if a promotional stream persists.

What you can't turn off

Because YouTube sits on your Google Account, a set of emails is essential and cannot be disabled:

• Security alerts — new-device sign-ins, password changes, and suspicious-activity warnings.
• Account and legal notices — required updates to terms or privacy policy, and account-status messages.
• Purchase and membership receipts — confirmations for Premium, memberships, Super Thanks, or rentals.

These protect your account or record a transaction, so they always arrive. The only way to end them completely is to delete the Google Account behind YouTube.

Filter fallback for stragglers

If a YouTube email survives every setting, catch it at the inbox. Create a filter in Gmail, Outlook, or Apple Mail that matches YouTube's sending address and routes it to a folder or Trash — but keep it targeted so you don't bury receipts or security mail.
